Looking for an Ultrabook during Cyber Monday? The clock is ticking and deals are about to expire. We've done the leg work for you and found a list of 10 solid Ultrabooks, everything from the latest current 4th Gen powered machines to the older (and cheaper) 3rd Gen Ultrabooks.
Without going too far, our personal pick is the brand new HP Spectre 13 Ultrabook at only $855 for an impressive QHD display setup (getting you a healthy 2560 x 1440 resolution). This is one of the few laptops on the market with a higher-than 1080p display at well under $1,000 thanks to HP's 20% off Cyber Monday discount.
Another contender for our favorite pick is also from HP (we're as surprise as you are), the 2013 Envy 14 TouchSmart Ultrabook which comes equipped with a discrete GeForce GT 740M GPU plus a decent HD+ 900p display. Paired with the faster clocked Core i7 ULV, you'll actually be able to play quite a few 2012 games without too much of an issue. Not too bad for $843.
The list below is by no means exhaustive, we'll be adding more deals through out the week as 'Cyber Week' sale continues (look for other personal favorites such as the Yoga 2 Pro and the Sony VAIO Duo 13 - both impressive premium machines).
What's an Ultrabook?
Think of it as the PC manufacturer's answer to the MacBook Air concept. Slick, thin, and powerful machines that can boot fast with great balance of performance and battery life. Difference between the 3rd and 4th Gen Ultrabooks? Here are the details you should care about:
4th Gen: Haswell based Intel chips. Must resume from hibernation within 3 seconds. Must have minimum of 6 hours of battery life or 9 hours of idle battery life. 3rd Gen: Ivy Bridge based Intel chips. Must resume from hibernation within 7 seconds. Battery life minimum of 5 hours.
While the Haswell ULVs for the 4th Gen Ultrabooks aren't significantly more powerful than their 3rd Gen counterparts, on average most of the machines will get much more efficient battery life. So when all else is equal, we'll go with the newer technology recommendation.
4th Gen Ultrabooks
HP Spectre 13t-3000 Ultrabook (2013), Core i5-4200U, QHD 2560 x 1440 Touch, 128GB SSD for $855.99 with free shipping - use coupon code PC999CMCheapest ever by $104. This is by far one of the best HP deal during Cyber Monday sale. A hidden gem of sorts with its QHD display. Ditch the QHD and you'll save $70 and resort to a 'measly' 1080p display.
HP Envy 14 TouchSmart Ultrabook 14t-k100 Core i7-4500U, HD+ 900p, GeForce GT 740M, 24GB mSSD for $843.99 with free shipping - use coupon code PC999CM - Cheapest ever by $53. Another good pick from HP, this is one the only Ultrabook on this list that can be considered a gaming capable laptop thanks to its discrete GeForce GT 740M GPU. One of the cheapest Core i7 ULV on this list.
Lenovo ThinkPad X240 Ultrabook, Core i3-4010U, 4GB RAM for $860.18 with free shipping - use coupon code DOORBUSTER - Cheapest ever by $139. The ThinkPad X240 continues the popular X lineup. Use the same discount for other higher-end model which includes either more RAM, faster CPU, or premium IPS panel (worth the $50 upgrade).
Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook Core i3-4010U, 1080p display, 128GB SSD for $848.99 with free shipping - use coupon code SKM23S2QSF9VT$ - Dell's 2013 refreshed XPS 13 didn't get a lot of press time but its another slick and thin portable machine on the market. Yeah its a Core i3, but at least its a 4th Gen plus it has a gorgeous screen. (Coupon expired!)
