7 Heart Pumping Features of the TomTom Runner Cardio GPS Watch (list)

If you're a fitness freak, you already know the importance of tracking your heart rate, right? For those who aren't as fitness savvy, a heart rate monitor lets you know how your body responds to any physical activity and if you want to burn calories and fat, knowing what your heart rate is is key. Well since every other smartwatch on the planet now boasts such a feature, it was time that GPS watch makers stepped up their game and went even further with their own devices. TomTom released their new Runner Cardio GPS watch that improves on their original Runner watch by combining their position-based exercise tracking with an innovate integrated optical heart rate sensor that ditches any and all chest straps. The TomTom Runner Cardio ($270) is a runner's dream watch and read on to find out why!

1. Accurate Heart Rate Readings (Without a Chest Strap)

A lot of pedometers monitor heart rate, but are they really that accurate? This one is...and you don't need a chest strap to get it! The most accurate way to get your heart rate reading is by using a chest strap, but the Runner Cardio GPS watch provides 'extremely accurate' results thanks to a sensor in the watch that monitors changes in the blood flow in your wrist as you exercise when compared to electrocardiography. The wristband does this by shining light through your skin and then detects the changing light reflections to get an accurate reading.

2. Five Different Intensity Zones To Train In

It doesn't matter where you're at in your training since the Runner Cardio is great for all levels. From those just starting out on their running journey or those who run marathons like every other week - this watch has a training zone for you! You can easily train in one of its five intensity zones, depending on your goal, so you alway know whether you need to speed up or slow down. The zones go from Easy (easy tempo training usually for warm-up and cool-down), all the way to Sprints for interval training. In between you have Fat Burn, which is moderate tempo training for weight loss; Endure for when you want to improve your lung and heart capacity, which provides moderate to high-tempo training; and finally Speed, which is high-tempo training to improve your speed and fitness.

3. Real-Time Running Info

It's extra-large display provides you all the info you need on your run as you're running. Just take a quick glance at your wrist to track your distance, time, pace, speed and calories you burned. It will also display your optimal heart rate zone for whatever intensity you're on and provide info on past performances so you can always beat them.

4. Multi-Platform Compatibility

Sync all your stats on all your devices easily. This way you have all the info you need whenever you want it so that you can analyze your run and reach your goals. You can upload your activities on popular running sites, track progress against your goals and even share your stats on social media channels (if you want to be that annoying friend who always posts their workouts).

5. One Button Control

You don't have to fidget with various controls to check your stats while out on a morning run since the Runner Cardio features one button control. A press to the left will get you info about your watch, down opens setting screen and right opens the activity screen.

6. Built-In GPS Tracks Your Route

This feature is a given with TomTom products. Its built-in GPS allow you to navigate where you're going, so you don't get lost on new trails or on your way to a new track you want to do some sprints on. Its GPS sensor will also record your route so you can review it later and will even count the strides on a treadmill if you're indoors at at gym training.

7. It's Waterproof

If you're a triathlon athlete, running is only part of your training. You have to worry about getting in the water, too. You won't have to take off the Runner Cardio since it has a waterproof body that's capable of diving to 165 feet.
