Google Maps has gotten a bunch of new improvements just in time for summer road trips! The Maps app for both Android and iOS both feature small improvements that'll make navigating your road trip that much easier. Here's a list of new features for your driving pleasure!
1. Specific Lane Navigation
Now when you're using turn-by-turn navigation in Google Maps, the app will now specifically relay to you which lane you should stay in or move to so that you get to exactly where you want to go without having to suddenly cruise across the highway for an exit or suddenly have to make a right after curing in the far left lane. We're sure a lot of you have totally missed turns because of this, so this addition is a huge improvement for those who like to be told exactly how to get somewhere, down to which lanes to be in.
2. Dive Into Street View
Check out your next vacation by tapping on the place card of your place of interest into Street View where available. You might also be able to get a peek into hotels, restaurants and more.
3. Offline Use
Another new improvement is the fact that it's now easier to save maps to use when you're offline. Right now, you have to type in the not so known phrase 'OK maps' to save directions on your screen, but with the new update, you'll be able to search for a specific area, tap on its place info sheet and then simply save it to use offline. Google is also letting you name your saved maps whatever you want to call it.
4. New Filters
The search system will now have new filters so you'll be able to look for hotels, bars, restaurants and more - helping you find cool places along your journey. This is meant to compete with the likes of Yelp, which already has these useful filters.
5. Other Route Options
Not everyone has a car to get around. For those who take public transportation, a new feature will let you add options like 'Depart at' to choose when you want to leave and the date. There's even a 'last train home' feature for night owls who like to party all night. Maps will also now integrate data from Uber for those looking for alternative ways back home. Users can now compare the ride with transit and walking direction and it'll also jump over to the Uber app if you have it installed on your phone.
