It's now been a few weeks since I drove the all new 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe. I really hoped to make a video, which might still happen. But for now this article will have to suffice, especially since our video turn around time is, well, some what long by comparison to written posts. So here it is, albeit in a list format.
1. Caddy's Age
This is a bit random, and not so related to the ATS Coupe. But did you know that Cadillac is now 112 years old! File that under TIL.
2. Two Engine Types
There are two engines to choose from. A 2.0L turbo charged 4-cylinder that puts out 295 lb-ft of torque and produces 272hp. 0-60 is 5.5 seconds. The V6, which is naturally aspirated, produces less torque, 275 lb-ft to be exact, and 321 hp. Unfortuantely, the 0-60 time is less than that of the 4 banger, but almost identical; 5.6 seconds.
3. Weight
The weight of the ATS Coupe is identical to that of the sedan. I don't have that number off hand, but will update the article as soon as I dig it up. That said, the weight distribution is 50/50. Update: it's 3400lbs. 6000lbs lighter than the Lexus RF C and about 100 lbs lighter than the M4. Neither are great comparisons, but on that note it is confirmed that there will be a V version of the ATS coupe and CTS!!
4. 4G LTE
The ATS Coupe comes standard with AT&T's 4G LTE. If you're already an AT&T customer you can just add it to your plan through a small fee, which in turn uses your existing data plan.
5. Wireless Charging
This is pretty neat. Flip up what I generally refer to as the 'drug smuggling' compartment (it's touch activated), drop your Qi compatible phone onto the mat, and it will begin to charge. I might be wrong in saying this, but I believe it's the first wireless charging mat installed in a production car.
6. Bose and Noise Cancelation
Like a good premium, top dog, Cadillac has included a premium Bose system with the ATS Coupe. Plus, and this is big, it boasts active noise cancelation to keep the cabin extra crisp. BTW, keyless entry is also standard.
7. Magnetic Ride Control
It's not standard, but an option. And an option that is worth getting. I wish I could tell you more about my experience, but since I had a small amount of seat time in the ATS I'll have to leave it at that. However, I have driven other brands of cars, not just Cadillac, with MRC, and I love it. On a nerd note, you might like to learn that MRC reads the road 1,000 times a second, and at 60mph the ATS Coupe, with MRC, can adjust the suspension every 3-inches the car travels.
8. Limited Slip Diff
Grab the sides of the seat Mom (that's what my mom does when I drive some what spiritedly), because the ATS Coupe has a Limited Slip Diff. In short, this means more traction, as the ATS Coupe is able to send the traction to the correct tires and help the car get through the bends all the faster and more effectively.
9. Other options
There is a HUD, lane assist which keeps you in the lane and nudges you if you don't. There is also driver awareness, which works in tandem with ACC (adaptive cruise control), and will alert you in the event of an impending crash (it should also assist with quick braking - there are 4 pot Brembos on the front - if this happens).
10. Price
The ATS Coupe starts at $37,995. It tops out at $58,775. Availability? I believe you can order one now.
